 Years ago, I applied for what I thought was the perfect remote job as a coder. After submitting my resume for review, I received an email from someone claiming to represent the company in Arizona. They scheduled an interview via Zoom, but there was something unusual about the arrangement—they insisted the meeting be audio-only, with no camera usage. This struck me as odd since Zoom is typically used for both video and audio communication, allowing you to see and interact with the interviewer face-to-face.

During the interview, the individual refused to appear on camera and instructed me to only respond with “yes” or “done.” Suspicious, I took extra precautions and contacted the company. Speaking with the director, I described the person, and they confirmed my suspicion—the interviewer was a former employee fired over a year ago.

This taught me a key lesson: always verify job applications and interview requests. Check the employer’s official website or contact them directly to confirm the opportunity is real. Stay alert to protect yourself from scams and identity theft!

The reason I’m sharing this is to stress the importance of carefully understanding messages. The text clearly stated a camera wasn’t needed due to urgency in filling spots. Excited about the opportunity, I rushed to share my personal details without hesitation. Sadly, the job was fake, neither available nor officially posted.
